Vintage Treasure-Vernon Ward Print

Hello everyone, Happy Wednesday!

I got up super early on Sunday to go to the car boot fair, and it was so worth it, as I came home with bags stuffed full of treasure.  I'm a big fan of the work of Vernon Ward, and have collected a few pieces over the last couple of years including one of his beautiful swan prints.  I recently upcycled a picture frame for this floral still life, so I when I spotted this print on Sunday, I practically sprinted over to bag it!  It appears to be from the same series, except this one has summer blooms such as delphiniums and lupins, and my other print has spring blooms.

Naturally it came with a frame that did nothing for the print - a top tip at car boot fairs is to ignore the frame and just look at the print, as you can always re-frame it.  Although I love re-framing these pieces using old, chippy frames, a fab way to give a print you love a new lease of life, is to frame it in a crisp, white frame with a wide border.  Don't be afraid to mix contemporary and vintage!

I also got two amazing patchwork quilts, which immediately went into the washing machine as soon as I got home, and have been drying out ever since!  I will take some snaps of them and the other treasures I found, and share them with you on Friday.

(PS-You may have noticed that my Pinterest hover button disappeared, this was due to a bug - I've now re-installed it, so happy pinning!)

Have a wonderful day!

  1. My Gran had a similar picture to this but with red flowers through it, my local vintage shop has the same one for sale but not sure how much it is there. I love vintage things and how they remind you of your childhood, I just bought some vintage Christmas decorations that my mum, auntie and Gran had back in the 70s/80s. I think they had chucked them out, if only they knew back then that people would be clambering over them years later to get their hand on them :)
