Styling The Seasons - October

Hello everyone!

I came online to edit this post last night, and realised I'd made a mistake of epic proportions (well, in blogger land anyway!).  I'd scheduled it to publish on the wrong day, and hadn't written my piece - so this went live yesterday morning with no text, oops!  Apologies to those of you viewed this post yesterday and were given no greeting - consider it as a preview!

In a move that might shock some of you, I am currently in love with the colour deep red, also known as wine, burgundy or deep, dark crimson.  Whether it's because Halloween is around the corner (I adore Halloween), or because I'm still obsessed with the colour palette of my vintage circus party back in the summer, I'm not completely sure. (Gosh I still haven't shared any party pictures with you have I?  Bear with me, I will dig them out!)  All I know, is that in a shift away from my beloved pastels, this colour is one that I'm drawn to in these colder months, especially against a crisp, white backdrop.  I'm fairly sure that it's a hark back to my childhood too - when I was a tot, we had a lot of burgundy in our home decor.  Burgundy carpet, deep pinky red walls, burgundy cushions...it was the seventies after all, and sublety was not the trend!
I recently found two round, pleated vintage velvet cushions at a local flea market, one of which can be seen in the bottom picture, and this is what kicked off my new colour lust.  Last weekend I made two velvet pumpkins from some old curtain fabric that I bought when I was a teenager (remember my pastel vintage pumpkins I made a couple of years ago?  See the post here, along with the tutorial on how to make them).  I decorated them with old rhinestone buckles and used driftwood as stalks.

I found the flower print and the beautiful old books at the car boot fair recently, and the fragile little champagne saucer was found a few years ago.  I love the feather humming bird, I bought that from Habitat years ago, a shop I really miss since it disappeared from the high street.

  2. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm! Lovely! I adore this color too, and it looks lovely against your white background. I'm trying to picture your childhood home, it sounds rich (like living inside a red velvet cake with raspberry icing, maybe?) and fabulous. I'm glad you mentioned the party pictures, that "T" haunts my dreams, but I didn't want to be pushy by bringing it up. I certainly do want to see those pictures, though! I'm just in love with that "T"!!!
