Fading Hydrangeas...

Hello everyone, I hope you had a lovely weekend.

I apologise for the fact that it's yet another post about Hydrangeas, but I absolutely love them, so feel free to ignore if they are not your flower of choice!  There is something about the way that they fade to dusky vintage shades, which shows that Autumn is truly here...in early September I cut the stems of the best flowers, remove the leaves, and put them in a big jar of water, where the petals slowly lose their colour and turn to parchment hues.  Once the water has completely vanished, the heads are dry enough to use in floral displays or for making wreaths in time for (dare I say it?!) Christmas.  Until then I shall enjoy their ruffled, pale pink display in my huge apothecary jar - a last memento of summer.

Little Shoes...

Hello!

We braved the crowds in Clarks a couple of days before the start of term, to buy the children new school shoes.  My daughter has not only shot up in height recently (she is eight) but her once tiny little feet are now size 2.  Size 2!  My baby is growing up, and fast!  Being the sentimental so and so that I am, I have kept some of the children's shoes from when they were tiny.  Not all of them sadly, I got rid of the sweetest pair of jelly shoes she had when she was about two years old and still feel sad about that to this day - the pale pink boots in the picture above were in a bag to go to a charity shop, only to be rescued at the last minute.  I'm so glad I did, because they hold precious memories for me, and they are a reminder of how small (and naughty!) she used to be, and of how much she has grown to be the funny, kind and loving person she is today.

Box Frame of Vintage Treasures

Hello everyone, hope you had a lovely weekend!

Amongst a weekend of ferrying the children around to parties (their social lives are now busier than mine!), I made it my mission to squeeze in a craft project this weekend to fix my craft junkie addiction.  I'm pleased to say that my mission was accomplished!
I've had this box frame from The Range knocking around for months now, but finally it has been taken from it's dusty corner and put to good use.  As I mentioned the other day, I wanted to do something lovely with my car boot vintage cigarette cards, so I decided to use a few of them on this mood board box frame, a collection of little 3D treasures, fabric scraps and paper ephemera.  It was quick and easy to make, as the box frames come with the padded fabric backing and a little packet of pins, so all I had to do was to arrange my treasures, and pin them in place.
I'll share some pictures of what I did with the other cards on another post very soon!

Vintage Floral Cards

Happy Friday everyone!

Just a quick post from me today, as I'm not sure where the time has gone on this rainy Friday!  I'm looking forward to doing some crafting this weekend, and I thought I'd use these pretty vintage cigarette cards.  I'm thinking of hanging them on a mini washing line across an old picture frame, with some little pegs...watch this space!

Beautiful Old Frames

Hello all!

I love a bit of decadence here and there in my home, whether it be a tinkling chandelier, or an old gilt frame.  I don't care if they're not perfect, for me the chips and dinks add to their charm and history.  A man at the car boot fair the other weekend had a small lorry, full of what appeared to be the contents of a lovely old house - dark Victorian paintings, antlers, old rugs and lots of these frames.  I picked up these up along with a much larger frame, for £8.  It does make me a little sad that somebody's once treasured belongings have ended up on a van being sold in a field on a Sunday morning - but at the same time I love giving these things, once so grand but now very worn round the edges, a new home, a new lease of life.

I have plans for these beauties, which I shall share with you one day!

Welcome September, and Thank You!

Hello everyone, I hope you are having a lovely, lazy Sunday afternoon!

I can't quite believe that September is here and that I've been blogging for a full eight months now.  I just want to say a huge 'Thank You!' to each and every one of you for your support and encouragement.  Please do keep coming back and leaving your lovely comments - I do love hearing from you!

Some big changes are afoot around these parts, which are actually pretty exciting for the blog - I shall be sharing that with you very soon.  In the meantime, I just wanted to share these shots of this lush hydrangea I bought from my local market with you - soon the petals will be fading to parchment hues, a true sign that Autumn is on its way.
